Interactive Spatial Installation — Creating Connection

with Kylian Jonkers, 2022

This interactive spatial installation explores human connection in an increasingly individualistic society. The work is activated only through physical togetherness: participants must hold hands to complete an electrical circuit that brings the installation to life. When connected, a floating, undulating disco ceiling is activated, transforming collective touch into light and movement. By lifting the ceiling from the club and placing it into open space, the work reveals togetherness as a generative force. The installation is built from upcycled COVID-19 partition panels, transforming materials once used to separate people into a structure that exists only through connection.

RING, RING, YOUR SUBCONSIOUS IS CALLING

Ring, Ring, Your Subconscious Is Calling is a co-creational, two-part installation exploring intuitive creation, listening inward, and collective vulnerability. The work begins with a guided meditation drawing session in which participants are invited to create abstract drawings from a subconscious place, free from judgment or outcome. From these works, I select drawings that resonate with me and respond to them through short poems, recorded in my own voice. The drawings are later installed in the landscape alongside a rotary phone. Visitors are invited to choose a drawing and call it, receiving a poetic audio response — a quiet, intimate moment of reflection, resonance, and inner listening.

HOUSIE MOUSIE

Housie Mousie is a playful, participatory installation centered around cooperation and shared action. Visitors enter a small hut where multiple computer mice are connected to a single mechanism. Only when all participants click their mice simultaneously does a hidden hatch open, revealing Paulus the House Mous, who appears to deliver a short DJ set. The work transforms a familiar digital gesture into a physical, collective act, asking participants to synchronize attention and intention. Through humor and absurdity, Housie Mousie creates a moment of connection, reminding us that access, reward, and play can emerge only through togetherness.
